"Love to Lounge" - ZooMed's Repti-Hammock
Our bearded dragons love to lounge "lizard style". We can't keep enough of ZooMed's Repti-Hammocks around. At times our dragons will pile up in them to hang out and get a good view of everything going on in the room in which their enclosure is located. Place your hammock about half way up from the bottom of the tank and in the basking area. They love to jump from one basking site to another. In this cage we are using ZooMed brand Repti-Sand as the substrate. We mix the desert red with the white to ad contrast to the feeder crickets which will become white once they are dusted with calcium. This is a ultra-fine grained sand that will clump for easier cleaning (similar to how cat litter clumps). We find the red to be a little dusty so we mix the white in with the desert red which has worked well for us. Although you will see a hollow round piece of cork bark in this picture we have learned from experience that it is best to use a "flat" piece of cork bark. The hollow cork logs allows the feeder crickets a place to hide in a location the dragons can not reach. You do not want crickets left in the tank overnight. The hollow log makes it difficult to determine if there are any crickets that have gone uneaten. Also, crickets that have hidden in the log will come out at night and nibble on anything and everything, including your dragon.
